SSP Republish Old Posts

Keep your website fresh by automatically resurfacing your best evergreen posts.

Why It Matters

Great posts get buried over time. SSP Republish Old Posts automatically bumps older content to the top of your blog on a schedule, renewing visibility and engagement without manual work.

No copy or duplicate content. The plugin updates the post publish date according to your rules.

Key Features — General Pool

  • Flexible Scheduling: Run every X minutes (1-60), hours, days, weeks, or months.
  • Category Targeting: Limit to selected categories or include all posts.
  • Selection Modes: Random from the oldest pool or Oldest-first.
  • Oldest Pool Size: Choose how many of the oldest posts are eligible when using Random.
  • Manual Run: Execute once instantly from the admin page.
  • Tracks Activity — Admin only: Each post stores a Last republished timestamp in post meta. Shown in the Posts list column, the post metabox, and the Activity tab. Nothing is added to the front end.
  • Lightweight: Built with WordPress best practices and minimal overhead.

Marked Pool — Advanced Controls

  • Mark Specific Posts: Toggle per post in the editor metabox or from the Posts list.
  • Include Entire Categories: Add whole categories to the Marked Pool so all posts in those categories are treated as marked.
  • Separate Schedule: Run the Marked Pool on its own interval, independent from the General Pool.
  • Selection Modes: Random from the oldest pool or Oldest-first. When using Random, set the Oldest Pool Size for how many oldest marked posts are eligible.
  • Cooldown: Prevent the same marked post from being republished again until your cooldown passes. Examples: 2 hours, 24 hours, 3 days, 2 weeks, 6 months, 1 year. Use 0 to disable.
  • Quick Management: Full-width Marked Posts table shows title, original date, last republished time, and whether the post was explicitly marked or included by category. Unmark with one click.
  • Optional Row Action: Enable or disable the Mark to Marked Pool action link on the Posts screen.

How It Works

  • On each interval, the plugin selects one eligible post based on your active pool and your selection mode.
  • Oldest-first: Republishes the single oldest eligible post.
  • Random from oldest pool: Builds a pool of the N oldest eligible posts and republishes one at random. You control N with Oldest Pool Size.
  • Marked Pool eligibility: Includes posts you explicitly marked and any posts in the categories you added to the Marked Pool.
  • Cooldown for Marked Pool: A post is skipped if its last republish time is more recent than your cooldown window.
  • When a post is republished, its publish date is updated to now, moving it to the top of your blog feed. A Last republished timestamp is saved in post meta for admin use only.
  • No front-end output is added. Your theme and content remain unchanged unless you choose to display the meta yourself.

Activity and Logs

  • Admin only: View or hide the Activity table from its own tab. It lists the post, original date, last republished time, and whether it is in the Marked Pool.

Compatibility

  • Works with all WordPress posts: Compatible with the standard WordPress Posts post type across any theme. Pages and custom post types are not altered.
  • Compatible with both Classic Editor and Block Editor. No front-end code or templates required.

Benefits

  • Revive evergreen content and increase pageviews automatically.
  • Keep your blog looking active and up to date for readers and search engines.
  • Save time by replacing manual maintenance with smart automation.
  • Fine-tune which posts get resurfaced using categories, marks, and cooldowns.

Who It Is For

Ideal for bloggers, publishers, and site owners with evergreen posts, tutorials, or guides. Use the General Pool for broad automation, and the Marked Pool when you need precise editorial control over which posts are eligible and how often they can resurface.
